Our first tournament was a Memorial Tournament at the Delton Sportsmen's Club for Jerry Volz in 2003. Jerry was involved in the Baraboo, Portage and Merrimac Horseshoe Leagues. Jerry was a sanctioned member of the WHPA and NHPA, attended numerous State and World Tournaments and encouraged family and friends to get sanctioned and participate in sanctioned tournaments as well. In 2005 the Delton Sportsmen's Club became the site for the WHPA spring and fall meetings. When our group of pitchers started attending more State Tournaments and other Team events, we took on the name of Delton Sportsmen's Club. We continued having the Jerry Volz Memorial Tournament there. We pounded 24 stakes in the ground on their trap range and hauled in loads of sand each year. In 2008 we bought some open ended toilet seats and thus started our annual Redneck Horseshoe Tournament. In 2013 we moved the tournament to Bronco Billy's, they had 8 sand courts and we didn't have to worry about setup, rent, food, beer and pop. In 2014 Dave Volz had this vision, the field behind his house (the field of dreams) would be the perfect place to put some pits in. So it began, we have 12 permanent non-sanctioned sand pits. We now have our Memorial tournament there as well as a fall tournament. With the change of location, so came the name change, we are now known as the Summit Ridge Horseshoe Club. We continue to make improvements to our club and pits with the next vision is in mind. "A clubhouse with 3 indoor sanctioned clay pits!" We're getting there! The Shed is up, the 3 sanctioned clay courts are done and the clubhouse with a bar is complete.
